My name is Frank Woods III, and I am from Natchez, MS. I am currently the assistant principal at Yazoo County Middle School in Yazoo City, MS. My career in education has spanned over 16 years so far and most of them have been in middle school. There is something about this age group that is just as rewarding as it is challenging for me. The ability to take a diamond in the rough and begin the process that will eventually lead to an amazing creation is truly what gets me out of bed in the morning.
My educational journey has been a long road, but I am truly a lifelong learner. After graduating from Natchez High School, I decided to attend Alcorn State University on an academic scholarship. I grew as a man as well as a scholar beneath the shade of giant trees on the "Reservation". When my time at Alcorn was complete, I had earned a B.S degree in Biology (Physical Therapy) as well as a M.S. in Biology. After becoming a certified teacher and working in the classroom as a science teacher for many years, I decided to return to school and pursue a degree in administration. My next degree was in Educational Administration and Leadership from Mississippi College. As an administrator, I have served Yazoo County School District for over 6 years. This summer I will complete my formal academic matriculation with a doctoral degree from The University of Southern Mississippi.
I truly believe that all students have the capability to learn, but it is our charge as educators to find the best method to instruct. I am also a firm believer in educating the whole child by learning from your students. All students should receive the same effort from their instructors to promote success and not just the “good or smart” students.
I am engaged to Starr Hayden, and we live in Clinton, MS. She is a Biology teacher in Jackson Public School District. I also have a son named Mason Matthew Woods who is in the 8th grade. That should be interesting, to say the least…😉
