Welcome to Band!
This is my third year as director of bands at Yazoo County High and Middle School, and my 21rst year of teaching!
In addition to teaching, I enjoy writing music for bands and percussion ensembles. I also enjoy performing; my favorite instruments to play are drums (and really, any of the percussion instruments), guitar, and bass.
I hold an Associate Degree from Jones County Junior College, and both a Bachelor and Master of Music Education from the University of Mississippi.
High School Band Students: in addition to your instrument and sheet music, you'll need to make sure you have a pencil in class. We keep our sheet music in a folder in the band hall, and students are welcome to take a second folder home, and keep music there to practice. School-owned horns need to stay at school, but I encourage you to take your personal horn, drum, practice pad, or guitar home to practice! You'll see a lot of improvement from just 10 minutes of practice a day!
Dual Credit Music Appreciation Students: most of the class will be taught on Canvas, so you'll need your computer. You might also want to bring a pencil or pen and some paper, if you prefer taking notes by hand.
